Squarebreak, the Paris-based company reimagining the way traditional hotels operate, is building the hospitality model for the future, according to the Co-Founder and CEO, Hugues van Heesewijk.
While at first glance, you may compare this company with Airbnb, Squarebreak actually manages private properties, as well as distributing them through their website. This management aspect sets them apart from their competitors, and Squarebreak has since created local ecosystems that are each overseen by a Break Manager. Break Managers are what Hugues describes as the General Managers of virtual hotels, which means they manage a cluster of properties, providing services, attention, trust, and reliability to the guests and property owners. Squarebreak is continuing to grow, and while they have a strong position in the French market and a presence in several other popular European destinations, the company is working to expand further throughout the continent. “We have growth of about x3 on a year-to-year basis, so it’s starting to be a pretty big business,” he says.
