#ReceptionLife: Stories of Hospitality Success

by | CAREER GUIDANCE, Career Paths

Let us tell you a story about a woman named Marta Bagniuk.

In 2007, Marta made the move from Poland to Denmark with an education in hospitality and passion in her heart. When she arrived in Denmark, she spent four years developing her skills in the restaurant industry and gaining valuable early career experience.

However, in 2011, Marta had a realization that her true hospitality dream career wasn’t in the restaurant world–it was to be in the hotel industry. Marta was inspired to change directions in her career path and soon after she landed a job at a top quality hotel in Copenhagen, one of Europe's most cosmopolitan cities.

From then on, Marta dedicated herself to providing an excellent guest experience for every single person that walked into the lobby of her hotel. This passion caught the attention of her managers and, in 2017, Marta was promoted to assistant manager at one of their hotels in Roskilde. And, just a year and a half later, she returned to her original hotel in Copenhagen, but this time as the hotel manager.

Marta’s story is a perfect example of where your journey in hospitality can take you. Even if you start in one sector of hospitality, it’s never too late to realize you might be happier in another.

To reinforce this idea, we’d like to share two more exciting hospitality journeys from some of your industry peers on the Hosco platform who went from an entry level job to the management career path.

Giuseppe: From Concierge to Senior Management

Giuseppe began his hospitality journey in 2005 as a concierge at a small hotel in Portofino, Italy. There he gained 18 months of crucial experience before moving on to a front office position with a more established hotel group in Florence. Giuseppe then took a position with Four Seasons hotels, spending a year in the front office in Florence before transferring to a front office role with Four Seasons in Geneva, Switzerland.

After spending some time gaining experience in the front office abroad, he returned to Italy in 2011, this time to Milan, to step into his first management position as a lifestyle manager for Armani Hotel. After a year in this role and equipped with valuable management experience, he moved on to become the operations manager Grand Hotel Temazzo in Como.

He spent a year in this role developing as a manager and building his logistical and administrative skills before he was promoted to hotel manager, a position he held for 4 years. Giuseppe was then promoted yet again to general manager, the role he holds to this day.

Federica: From Front Office to General Manager

Federica got a kickstart on her career by obtaining a degree at a hospitality school in Italy. From there, she jumped directly into a leadership role and took her first job as a front office shift leader at a hotel in Milan. She dedicated herself to this role for four years while she developed the crucial hard and soft skills she would need to move up her career path.

In 2001, Federica took on his first management position, a front office manager role with Sheraton Hotels in Milan. She spent the next 12 years of her career here, honing her management skills while working for one of the most reputable hospitality brands in the world. From there, in 2013, she moved on to an assistant hotel manager position in Legnano, where she gained the crucial skills and knowledge she needed to take the next step in her career path.

That next step brought her back to Milan, but this time as a general manager for Hilton hotel group, where she still continues to inspire her staff and deliver an excellent guest experience.

These are just a few of the many success stories you can discover in the hospitality world. While the career journey can be challenging at times, Hosco is always here to make the process of finding your dream hospitality job as easy as we possibly can.
